The Goddess immediately stands out as one of our favorite Kerli looks of all time. She stands dressed in all white to highlight her divinity. Her hair is sculpted away from her body and drops down like a veil. The makeup is very muted and monochromatic. Even her nails have been painted rounded white to complete this look. The only pop of contrast comes from her amazing lashes that we can�t get enough of. The Goddess is a fantastic example of artistic finesse that shows what it really means to be avant garde!

The Devil

Kerli darker side comes out through her look, The Devil. We love how this entire look is very sleek. Her bangs are perfectly straight with slick black hair that blends in with her clothing. While her nails are covered, they still are used as the costume with her gloves extending down into long strings. It a great example of how to think outside of the box and push the envelope. The Devil is all about Kerli eyes. Her eyeliner is perfection. They kept her lashes simple so nothing would detract from those eyes. From head to toe, this avante garde look creates a powerful and mysterious look.

The Fey Spirit

We are so inspired by the Fey Spirit. This look embodies the forests of Estonia. We love how the hair and makeup artists were able to create an avante garde deer. Kerli hair is braided up and around antlers and then flows down her back like a mane. The contour on her cheekbones and nose makes her look perfectly like an animal. We love the simple, flawless manicure that completes the Fey Spirit look.

The Spirit of the Plains

One of her most abstract looks in The Spirit of the Plains. The hair stylists were able to really experiment with this look. Long hair flows down to her calves with two large, braided buns on the side of her head. If that wasn�t dramatic enough, she wearing a large red cap with twisted and shaped hair extensions that shoot out from it. We love how the costuming works with the hair and makeup to create a dynamic and unforgettable look.

Braids for Days

The braiding detail in this more subdued look from Kerli in amazing. Intricate braids have been brought into popularity by �Game of Thrones� and this look is totally embodying it. Asymmetrical braids wrap the top of her head and meet at the top in a dramatic bun. Kerli stays looking fierce with some simple but bold makeup. A killer cat eye, lashes, and black lip take the drama up a notch. By keeping her eyebrows neutral, the makeup artists make a very ethereal and edgy look.

We love all the drama that this look is bringing. From her nails to her hair every element was thought through and works together to portray a story. The hair is dark and slicked back and looks almost like oil. This matches her sharp and oily black nails that drip down her hands. Even the makeup gives off the illusion of oily with some well placed highlighter and smudged eyeliner. The eyeshadow is next level with reaching up to the top of her eyebrows.

Use a Plain Background

The background of your photos should not distract from what the subject is. Using a distressed wood background can give your photos a classy feel. Continue to use the same background in all of your photos. Consistency will keep your photos looking uniform and professional.

Pick a Good Photo

This one seems like a no-brainer, but it is often overlooked. Choose a photo that you like! You may feel obligated to take a picture every time you complete a cut or color, and you should keep record for your portfolio, but you can save the photos for later, or not post them at all! If you have multiple appointments in a day, save a few photos for a day when you don�t have clients. Keep looking busy!

Take before/ after pictures of everything! It’s an amazing way to see your skills grow, or use as reference for techniques & challenges you’d like to conquer later! – Ashley

Take Multiple Photos

Taking multiple shots of the same work can give you multiple options to work with. You can also show different details of your work with different angles. While a long cut may look amazing from the back, that doesn�t always work for a pixie.

There are several ways to take before and afters. You can create a collage, a sped up video, or maybe take two photos and post them separately. Either way you decide to do it, it important to have all the right tools.

For speeding up videos: – This tool for videos is created by Instagram itself. It is available in the iTunes store for free. Unfortunately, it not available on Google Play. But here are a few alternatives.

– – creates time lapse videos. It also free and has no ads (currently).

– – this app claims to be easy to use and allows you to capture resolution up to 1080p. Pretty cool.

For snipped videos: – Basically, you create a moving photo with this Instagram app. Get it on iTunes or .

For creating a collage: – Choose from several types of collage layouts in this free Instagram app. This app is available in the , too.

– This app is available on iTunes. There is a free and a pro version for purchase. You can choose from several layouts that create seamless collages.

Be Kind

It is always important to respect your client privacy. Ask the client before you take their photo, don�t show their face unless they give you the OK, and always adhere to their request when they say that they don�t their photo taken or posted.

If they do allow you to take their photo, it wouldn�t be a bad idea to ask if they want you to tag them in it. Some clients love to share their new ‘do. A client may want to repost your photo and spread the word!

�Make your client feel beautiful. Have them gloss their lips, remove the drape, and hand them something… a cup, your brush or comb, and CAPTURE them RAW! Getting authentic smiles or just a “real” expression.� – Ashley
