The beauty industry is a great place to become a part of for those who share a love and passion for what it has to offer. If you are a beauty enthusiast looking to start beauty school and become a part of the growing industry, then cosmetology or an esthetic program might be the perfect place to start. Learn more about the difference between the two and find the right program for you and your future.

Common Similarities Between Cosmetology and Esthetics

Before diving into the differences between cosmetology and esthetics, let explore what makes these programs similar. Cosmetology and Esthetics share many similarities when it comes to beauty. During beauty school, you can expect to learn the basics of beauty, skin, hair, nail care, and anatomy.

While cosmetology programs emphasize on hair treatments and cutting, a cosmetology student can also learn more about nail technology, eyelash extensions, the basics of skincare, esthetics, and more.

Today the beauty world is expanding, and there so much information out there when it comes to good skincare and makeup. Learning on your own is fun, and becoming an expert is absolutely possible!

If youre interested in the study of skincare, the field of esthetics might be for you. Broadly defined, esthetics is the study of healthy skin and practical application on superficial treatments to improve the look and feel of skin. Basically, seeing an esthetician is a little bit like seeing another type of dermatologist or skin specialist, but estheticians focus exclusively on beautifying the skin.

Not all estheticians work in the same environment or even provide the same services or treatments. Some may work in large-scale spas while others work in local salons or beauty boutiques. But most estheticians have a few characteristics in common. These traits are what make them so great at their jobs and so successful in the field.

Have you ever thought about becoming an esthetician? Read on to find out if you possess some of the most common characteristics.

1. A Love for Helping Others

Estheticians, cosmetologists, and other professionals in the beauty industry have a natural knack for helping others feel good. Good estheticians love making others feel comfortable and are often good listeners. They engage personally with their clients to give them the most relaxing treatments possible.

2. An Attention to Detail

Getting up-close and personal with skin means being very detail-oriented. Estheticians know that to provide the best care, they must execute treatments flawlessly. No one wants two differently tinted eyebrows or only half a facial peel applied. This is one line of work where you can expect to delve into miniscule-sized projects. Your skin may be the , but it requires a fine touch to make it feel just right.

3. An Interest in Science

As part of the 91ɬ Esthiology program, estheticians in training can learn everything from waxing and makeup application, to things like sanitation, anatomy, and chemistry. The science behind skin care can be complex and varied.

Estheticians may have to mix their own masks and peels for every skin type. They may have to be versed in basic anatomy when and massaging facial muscles. And learning a bit of basic psychology to help clients find more relaxation and peace can never go wrong.

4. A Passion for Health

When it comes to skin, beauty and health go hand in hand. We all know that skin hydration is more than having a good hand-lotion. You must hydrate from the inside out and drink water throughout the day. To achieve clear, beautiful skin, it is necessary to understand the health that can get it there.

At 91ɬ Idaho, the esthetics programs covers a variety of skin care theory and whole-body wellness. A good esthetician should be interested in health and healing that come from beneath the skin to help clients feel young and beautiful.

5. A Passion for Beauty

It seems obvious, but beauty is first and foremost on any esthetician mind. This is the goal behind most treatments. A passion for beauty is the motivation and drive for estheticians.

Our esthetics program can help students marry their love of beauty with the practical aspects of turning it into a business. Great estheticians know the importance of building their client base and improving their facilities, as well as sharpening their skills in beauty and science.

Interested in Esthetics?

If you have these characteristics, as well as a drive and hands-on attitude, an esthetics education could be a great stepping stone on your beauty journey. We offer a full-time schedule for our 600-hour program, which can be completed in as little as four months, so you can get experience early on.

Nowdays, there really no excuse for not taking care of your skin. The secrets to excellent skincare and preventing the signs of aging are no longer secrets, which is great for you (and us)! While there are basic treatments and daily rituals you can be doing to ensure your skin retains its spring, including a regular visit to an esthetician is becoming even more important! Why? Wel tell you.

What is Esthetics, and What is an Esthetician?

We know youre likely washing, moisturizing, and doing everything you can for your skin, but that doesnt mean that estheticians arent still crucial to proper skin care. For some people suffering with severe acne, rosacea, or other skin ailments just moisturizing and removing makeup before sleeping isnt going to be a cure-all.

Though the secrets of skincare being out in the world can be a positive thing, it can also be a negative thing for these types of people. Rather than seeing a professional esthetician to solve their problem, they may choose to just follow the latest skincare tips they found online.

Regular visits with licensed and/or certified esthetician can help you watch for skin inconsistencies and alert you to any red flags that may require further treatment with a dermatologist, who can prescribe proper treatment. Estheticians can also perform services like waxing, , facials, and other beautifying practices. Click the image to learn exactly what an esthetician is, and what they can do for you!

Have You Done Your Homework?

Understanding how an esthetician might help you is important. Equally important is knowing when to visit an esthetician, and when to visit a doctor. An esthetician is trained to help you not only notice, but diagnose any mysterious on your skin. They may be able to tell right away that it not a big deal, or they might recommend you visit a doctor and have it removed. After spending a summer in the sun, many men and women may find that they want to go visit an esthetician to help keep their skin its healthiest. Click the image to learn if it might be time for you to get that mark looked at!

Your Esthetician Will Thank You!

Not all skin care requires a visit to the esthetician office! Some of the things you read online can be true about skincare regimens, but it is still safer to consult with an esthetician about a specific regimen for yourself. Meeting regularly with your esthetician can help you track your skin progress and you can both be excited about the health of your skin, plus together you may prevent future ailments.

Something to try out are these organic and natural facials. These should be used sparingly (about 1-3 times a week), but youl certainly want to use them more than that!

So go ahead and make that esthetics appointment today! While youre waiting, here are some essential tips for maintaining healthy skin:

  • Wash your face twice a day
  • Remove any makeup before sleeping
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Drink water
  • Moisturize daily

By following these basic tips you may find that your skin retains that natural bounce and smoothness. To ensure youre doing the best for yourself make sure you visit an esthetician to confirm your routine is working!

When you think of chemical peels, you might think of something out of a horror movie, but chemical peels are actually one of the staples of the esthetics industry and can help reverse many common skin problems!

From acne scars to uneven skin tone, a chemical peel you always wanted.

At 91ɬ Idaho in Boise and Twin Falls we have always strived to give our students a complete education, fused with the skills and techniques that are in demand. By including a training in chemical peels, we seek to give our students the competitive edge to keep them in demand in this sought-after industry.

One of the ways we have done this is by including some of the best products available, it why we have chosen to be part of the 91ɬs Family. It also why we have recently added a new product line to our chemical peel education.

We are proud to be using the Glymed Plus professional line in our school.

What is Glymed Plus, and what makes it different from other chemical peel products? Lucky for you, we have the answers!

If you have more questions, or are interested in learning more about our esthetics program, please to our admissions staff at or .

What is GlyMed Plus?

GlyMed was created by Christine Heathman, an accomplished medical esthetician who is committed skin health and repair. That commitment has shown throughout her career as she paved the way for many licenses and education systems that are still used today.

Ms. Heathman career began in the 1970s when she began working with woman who were undergoing extensive facial reconstructive or reparative surgery. She saw a need for a product that would help rejuvenate and repair severely damaged skin, as well as help repair issues that . It was her experience in this field that began her work toward the launch of the GlyMed product line.

What Makes GlyMed Plus Different?

Gly-Med Plus

One of the major reasons we have chosen to begin using Glymed Plus in our schools is because many of their philosophies are right in line with the 91ɬ branding that makes us who we are. Just like 91ɬ, GlyMed has a commitment to refrain from animal testing. They also use pharmaceutical grade natural derivatives and plant botanicals.

Despite the branding of a Chemical Peel the Glymed brand refrains from using unnecessary chemicals so as to keep their products rejuvenating and helpful to the skin.

Why Cant I Do This At Home?

glymed

While the GlyMed Brand does have a home product available to continue your beauty regimen between salon peels, there are quite a few advantages toward getting chemical peels done in a salon.

The salon products use professional grade ingredients that require an esthetics license to appropriate apply and administer to spa clients. Home products can help to reduce discoloration, provide moisture; however the salon brand is the approximate in one glorious rejuvenation session.

There are many benefits to a chemical peel, if you want to learn this skill, or schedule your own pampering session, give us a call.
